On Saturday, I watched 'The Duchess.' It was a film of the life of Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire, starring Keira Kinghtley and Ralph Fiennes, and it was riveting. The costumes were beautiful, the historical detail was pretty much spot on, and the performances from the leading actors were excellent. She's been compared to Diana, Princess of Wales, due to her popularity in 18th century England and her unhappy marriage and love affairs, and she was actually an ancestor of the Spencer family. It made for great viewing - it could easily have descended into sentimentality, but it didn't.
